Alastair Upton

Senior VP Business Development, Anokiwave

Alastair Upton is the Sr. VP Business Development for Anokiwave’s mmWave businesses that includes 5G wireless, satellite communications, aerospace and defense, test and measurements, and multi-markets. Alastair has 37 years’ experience in the semiconductor industry covering both defense electronics and high volume commercial applications at companies such as GE Aerospace, Lockheed Martin, RF Micro Devices (now Qorvo), MACOM and IDT. Prior to Anokiwave, Alastair was Sr. Director of RF product marketing at IDT and previously VP, Engineering and business unit director of the carrier networks business unit at MACOM, and general manager of the digital cellular product line at RFMD (now Qorvo). Alastair earned his MS Executive Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania and his B.Sc. Electrical Engineering at the University of Leeds in England.

Joachim Kunkel

Joachim Kunkel

General Manager Solutions Group, Corporate Staff at Synopsys

Joachim Kunkel has served as the General Manager of the Solutions Group at Synopsys since October 2006, responsible for Synopsys’ DesignWare® intellectual property (IP) products. Previously he served in a number of senior positions at Synopsys including Vice President of Engineering of the Solutions Group, Vice President of Marketing of IP and Design, and Vice President and General Manager of System-Level Design.

Prior to joining Synopsys in 1994, Mr. Kunkel was a managing director of CADIS GmbH, a company he had co-founded in 1989 in Aachen, Germany, focused on the development of system-level design tools for digital signal processing and providing specialized design services for digital wireless communication systems.

Mr. Kunkel holds an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the Aachen University of Technology.

Joe Madden

Principal Analyst, Mobile Experts LLC.

Joe Madden is Principal Analyst at Mobile Experts LLC. Mr. Madden provides most of the business analysis behind our forecasts, as well as primary research in semiconductor areas.

Over 26 years in mobile communications, he accurately predicted the rise of Digital Predistortion, Remote Radio Heads, Small Cells, and the Mobile IT market. He validates ideas with mobile and cable operators, as well as hardware suppliers to find the match between business models and technology.

Mr. Madden holds a Physics degree from UCLA. Despite learning about economics at Stanford, he still obeys the laws of physics.
