Raj Kumar of GLOBALFOUNDRIES Singapore Represents Electronics Sector on Singapore's National Productivity and Continuing Education Council
Singapore, September 28, 2012 - Raj Kumar, Senior Vice President and General Manager of GLOBALFOUNDRIES Singapore, has been appointed as a member of the National Productivity and Continuing Education Council (NPCEC), effective September 1, 2012.
As the private-sector member representing the electronics industry, Kumar brings some 23 years of semiconductor manufacturing experience to the Council, which was set up in April 2010 by the Singapore government to drive national efforts to raise productivity. Sixteen priority sectors have been identified with electronics being one of them.
“I would like to thank the Council for recognizing the importance of the electronics sector and for electing me to be the voice of our industry. The electronics industry is a major component driving Singapore’s manufacturing engine. To remain competitive internationally, it is important for us to work closely with the government to continuously develop strategies and identify solutions to improve workers productivity for continuous growth,” said Kumar.
Since 2010, GLOBALFOUNDRIES Singapore has started implementing innovative and intelligent systems in its 200mm wafer manufacturing fabs in Woodlands site, as part of the company’s overall productivity improvement plan. In addition, the company also works closely with Workforce Development Agency, e2i (Employment and Employability Institute), to develop and upgrade the employees’ skill sets.
“We need to be on a level playing field with the rest of the competing nations who are also driving semiconductor manufacturing as one of their key economies. Therefore, it is extremely important for private companies like GLOBALFOUNDRIES to continue to provide our sectoral views to the government and together look into areas where we can collaborate and benefit mutually and work towards a sustainable future ”, Kumar added.
