Synopsys' DesignWare® IP Supporting GLOBALFOUNDRIES Processes

Synopsys' collaboration with GLOBALFOUNDRIES enables mutual customers to differentiate their advanced SoC designs with leading EDA tools, methodologies and a broad portfolio of high-quality IP solutions.

The long-standing relationship between the two companies has resulted in the successful development of DesignWare interface PHY, analog, logic libraries and embedded memory IP from 180-nm to 40-nm process technologies. GLOBALFOUNDRIES and Synopsys are also working together on the development of USB, PCI Express, DDR, MIPI, HDMI, SATA and XAUI PHY IP targeting 28-nm HKMG process technologies with scalability to future generations. The DesignWare interface PHY IP solutions include advanced built-in diagnostic capabilities and ATE test vectors, enabling at-speed production testing of the PHY. It is implemented in standard CMOS digital technologies and does not require special process options, providing both ease of integration into a SoC and ensuring high production yields.

Synopsys' broad portfolio of high-speed, high-density and low-power embedded memories and logic libraries are silicon-proven and shipping in million of ICs. The DesignWare Embedded Memories offer advanced management features and are tightly coupled with the DesignWare STAR Memory System® for at-speed test and repair. By providing proven DesignWare IP for GLOBALFOUNDRIES' processes, Synopsys enables designers to meet the growing demands of a new generation of lower power, higher performance SoCs and quickly ramp into volume production.

Synopsys' Optimized Design Environment for GLOBALFOUNDRIES 28-nm Processes

Synopsys and GLOBALFOUNDRIES teamed up to deliver an optimized, pre-validated design environment for GLOBALFOUNDRIES 28-nm SLP high-k metal gate (HKMG) technology based on Synopsys' Lynx Design System. By leveraging the collaborative strengths of Synopsys and GLOBALFOUNDIRES, we are delivering a production-ready design solution that enables our mutual customers to adopt the latest technologies for their most advanced chips. Synopsys' support for the GLOBALFOUNDRIES HKMG 28-nm technology includes:
  • An optimized Lynx Design System
    • A flow configured for the pre-validated ARM 28-nm SLP standard cells and memories, which expedites design setup and start
    • Baseline design checks and guidelines for the CPA 28-nm SLP node that speed design closure and tapeout
    • A performance- and power-optimized implementation flow for the ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore processor that targets GHz+ results using ARM physical IP
    • An environment for full SoC integration of processors, peripherals and interface IP
Building on silicon-proven products such as the Lynx Design System, Galaxy Implementation Platform tools and DesignWare IP (Figure 1), Synopsys enables our mutual customers to mitigate their project risks and streamline their implementation process.
