Quality Management

GLOBALFOUNDRIES has implemented quality systems to ensure that products meet or exceed customers' specifications on quality and reliability. All of our in-house laboratories are equipped with advanced analytical tools, providing the necessary equipment and resources for the engineering and R&D team to continuously enhance product quality and reliability. GLOBALFOUNDRIES' quality assurance team comprises engineers, technicians and other employees who monitor and control our manufacturing processes.

Awards & Certifications

GLOBALFOUNDRIES's production facilities in Singapore and Dresden, Germany have been certified by the International Organization for Standardization, or ISO, to meet ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards. ISO 9001 standards set the requirements necessary to ensure the production of quality products and services, including standards relating to management systems, management responsibility, resource management, product realization, measurement, analysis and improvement. GLOBALFOUNDRIES has also received the ISO/TS 16949 certification for all Singapore Fabs and have met the yearly surveillance and 3-yearly re-certification audit requirements. ISO/TS 16949 is one of the most comprehensive quality standards in the industry. It defines the quality system requirements for use in the automotive supply chain - one of the industries that GLOBALFOUNDRIES serves. The ISO/TS 16949 certification also requires companies to emphasize meeting customer requirements, defect prevention, reduction of variation and waste in the supply chain and to continually improve the effectiveness and efficiency of business processes. Our goal is to achieve ISO/TS 16949 compliance for Fab 1 in Dresden, Germany in 2011 Q2...The ISO 9001 and ISO/TS 16949 certifications involve stringent periodic third party reviews and verifications of our production processes and quality management systems. They serve as recognition to GLOBALFOUNDRIES's commitment to achieving manufacturing excellence and quality standards. Recognized for quality processes and exceptional customer service, GLOBALFOUNDRIES was honored with Semiconductor International Magazine's Top Fab Award in 1997, 2004 and 2006 and "Fab of the Year" 2001 (Dresden Fab). GLOBALFOUNDRIES's manufacturing facilities were also certified to ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System) in 1998 and 2002 and OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health & Safety Management System) in Singapore in 2006. We have also achieved the Sony Green Partner certification for fabs 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 3E and have equivalent control at our other fabs, which have not been certified so far.

Customer Focus

Customer Surveys
In the quest for continuous improvement to serve customers better, GLOBALFOUNDRIES conducts Customer Surveys on a periodic basis to solicit ratings and feedback on both quality and service from key customers. We also ask to be ranked among against other suppliers. The feedback is reviewed and analyzed, and improvement actions identified, tracked and implemented.

GLOBALFOUNDRIES Customer Portal (Foundry View)
COLAS, is a one-stop, web-based information system that provides customers 24-hour online access to GLOBALFOUNDRIES's extensive library of data and information, further enhances our service quality. This information system delivers business information through a fast, reliable and secure online portal that enables authorized users to obtain Design, Engineering and Logistics information that the user can personalize based on their requirements. Examples of information posted are:

    Reliability Services

    GLOBALFOUNDRIES has a comprehensive reliability program for:

  • Process Reliability Qualification
    • Define reliability test requirements for each new technology.
    • Continuous Reliability Assessment through all phases of Technology Development
    • Verify new process technologies to meet GLOBALFOUNDRIES and our customers quality and reliability goals
    • Address any reliability weaknesses and take effective corrective actions before production release
    • Establish initial reliability baseline for continuous improvement after production release.
  • During mass production, GLOBALFOUNDRIES continues to do Process Reliability Monitoring to:
    • Provide reliability measurement data to customers.
    • Ensure that in line control systems are effective.
    • Detect major Reliability failure excursion.
    • Provide a Reliability baseline from which to evaluate process change and new technology.
    • Matching between Fabs
  • Data is collected on a continuous basis to ensure its specifications and performances have not been affected by process variation or changes. The reliability data are used to drive continuous improvement programs to ensure long-term reliability.

    • Failure Analysis

    GLOBALFOUNDRIES has world-class failure analysis facilities to support the following:
  • Customer Return
    Thorough analysis is performed on all returns to determine the root cause of the failure. In the event that the root cause originates from the wafer fabrication process, feedback is made to the Fab so as to generate the appropriate corrective and preventive measures.
  • Yield Improvement
    Providing physical analysis for continuous yield improvement. Analysis of line rejects allows us to closely monitor our manufacturing process, and adopt the necessary corrective actions to rectify anomalies.
  • Process Monitoring and Qualification
    Analysis of process monitoring and qualification failures is performed so as to provide data for continuous improvement in the reliability of our products.
  • Process development
    Structural analysis and material characterization are performed to support new technology or process development.
